Start Grotesk

Start Grotesk is a collaboration between Stefan Hürlemann and me. We are both obsessed with type and wanted to take our interest further and created a modern typeface that references and gets people interested in the history of how the individual letters developed and came about. Many unconventional characters come from our reference of the german language, such as the long s and the the old variant of the hyphen.

For our Typeface to have a modern look and feel we referenced classic german grotesque typefaces of the 18th century. Hard counters that connect to the stem emphasize a modern and fresh look but take reference in old blackletter style.

Currently the typeface consist of a plain regular weight.
